Hello, 2012

2012 is here!

I love the feeling that only the first day of January can bring. Everything seems brand new. You take time to look back over the 12 months that you've just lived and all the good feelings of all the good stuff come back. And even though the bad feelings of the bad stuff might come back too---you can at least combine them with the good feelings of knowing the bad stuff has passed! :)

I think all humans have a need to know that they can start over. I know I do! For me, January 1st lets me start again at anything I want. It's kind of like a free pass or something. Like you can quit beating yourself up for the things you may not have been perfect at the year before. Every year I start again, and at every year's end I pledge to do what I did the year before---only better.

The same goes for teaching. You work hard, you prepare, try your best, and sometimes it doesn't quite work out like you planned. I recently did  this. I didn't do something that I felt I should have done. Or actually, I think I could have just done it better. But the important part as I reflect on it now, is this: . In this new year, I will work hard. I will prepare. And I will try my best. And at the end of every day in 2012, I will pledge to do it exactly this way on the following day--only better.
